One overlooked thing with going underground is that air pressure would increase, go deep enough and it might start to get quite uncomfortable for surface folk. It would also suggest the drow coming to the surface would have to deal with a drop in pressure.
Going deep enough also causes it to get warmer, the bottom of really deep mines are like furnaces, shallow ones not so much.
They might not be that deep though, maybe only a couple of stories ?

That would be the Underdark, this is the ‘underdark’ just cold rocks, cold rivers and deep icy pools.
Welcome back.
